Highlights of the May Basho
The upcoming May Grand Sumo Tournament promises even greater excitement. Following the dramatic results of the March tournament, the championship race is expected to intensify as the March champion defends his title against strong challengers. Leading contenders are likely to include Yokozuna Onosato, Yokozuna Hoshoryu, and the Ukrainian-born Ozeki Aonishiki, promising intense matchups at the highest level of sumo. Other wrestlers who could play an important role in the race for the Emperor’s Cup include Kirishima, Takayasu, Atamifuji, and Kotoshoho. As the tournament enters its decisive final stage, Day 13 is often when the championship race reaches its peak. - 2:00 PM Meet at JR Ryogoku Station (next to Edo Noren)
- 2:10 PM Walk to Ryogoku Kokugikan
- Around 3:40 PM Watch the Makuuchi ring-entering ceremony
- 6:00 PM End of sumo viewing
- 6:30 PM Arrive at chanko restaurant
- 6:30–8:30 PM Chanko hot pot dinner
- ※ For the chanko-nabe dinner, one pot will be shared among 3 to 4 guests
- Tour ends: Around 8:30 PM (tour ends on site)
