What is Bushido?

Have you ever wondered what a Samurai truly was?

A Samurai was far more than a warrior.

Samurai lived by a code that valued respect, honor, loyalty, self-discipline, responsibility, and consideration for others.

This philosophy became known as Bushido, often translated as “The Way of the Warrior.”

Although the age of the Samurai ended long ago, the spirit of Bushido continues to influence modern Japan.

Its values can still be seen in Japanese culture, sports, business practices, traditional arts, and many of the stories told through films and anime enjoyed around the world.

Respect for others, good manners, responsibility, and the determination to protect family, friends, and community remain important values in Japanese society today.

Meet Your Samurai Master

Professional Samurai master introducing the spirit of Bushido

Your journey begins with your Samurai master, who will accompany you throughout the experience.

More than a sword instructor, he introduces the spirit of Bushido—the values of respect, discipline, and consideration for others.

Before beginning the walk through the nostalgic townscape of Kitasenju, you will first discover the philosophy that shaped the Samurai way of life.

Your master is a Samurai performer and sword-fighting instructor trained in Yagyu Shinkage-ryu swordsmanship.

His mission is not only to teach Samurai techniques, but also to share the timeless spirit of Bushido and the beauty of Japanese tradition through an authentic and memorable cultural experience.

Witness Authentic Samurai Swordsmanship

After returning from the street walk, your Samurai master will demonstrate traditional sword movements and techniques.

Observe the controlled posture, precise movements, awareness, and discipline that form the foundation of Japanese swordsmanship.

Experience Hands-on Samurai Training

You will then take part in a hands-on Samurai workshop using a safe practice sword.

Learn how to hold and handle a Japanese sword, practice basic movements, and experience Tate—the Japanese performing art of choreographed Samurai sword fighting.

The workshop emphasizes respect, controlled movement, safety, and cooperation rather than real combat.

After the walking tour, you will participate in a hands-on Samurai workshop.
